Locked out of windows live mail

I am denied access to one hotmail account. Windows live mail support said it
is a problem for windows live tech support. Live mail said it would route the
problem to live support. That was 3 days ago. How do I get to windows live
support (a person not the website)? BTW The error is 080048823. My problem is
that my password is not recognized and I do not remember the "exact" answer
to my security question. And sending the password only sends it to the locked
email address. If I ever get in I will ADD AN ALTERNATE ADDRESS. Thanks, KC

I have had 4 windows live mail techs respond and am now waiting for the
windows live tech. My problem started 11/2. My other 2 hotmail accounts work
fine also. Are there many more out there with the same problem?

I'm having the same problem and the same experience -- I'm locked out of my
account, no alternate addy and no way to answer the secret info -- either the
hacker changed the info, or I forgot what I put in because this is such an
old account.

If I fill out the Windows Live ID form, the auto responder tells me to
contact Hotmail support via their form. If I fill out THAT form, the auto
responder tells me to go fill out a Live ID form. I wish that MSN would sort
out this auto responder loop so at least my question goes to the right place.
I'm really hoping somewhere along the line a person reads of this problem,
so I'll post my ticket numbers, all 4 of them:

PA Bear, As I said in my first post, WLM says it is a "Windows Live" problem
and they were transfering me to them. Below is the last email from them:

Hello Kevon,
Thank you for writing back to Windows Live Mail Technical Support. My name
is Glenn and I gather that you are still encountering a 0x80048823 error
message when accessing your account through Windows Live Mail after going
through the account reconfiguration steps we have provided. I also noted that
you are unable to sign in to the account through the Web and that you are
unable to reset your password as the password is being sent to an
inaccessible account. Please accept our apologies for the issue you are
encountering and for any inconvenience this may have caused. I understand the
importance of having this addressed immediately and I will direct you to the
department that can assist you best.

Kevon, I have determined that your issue is related to Windows Live ID. We
would like to point you to the right direction since it is our goal to
provide technical support quickly and accurately to our members. The best
department to assist you with your concern would be the Windows Live
Technical Support Team. For your convenience, I have transferred your e-mail
to the correct department and they should contact you within 24 hours.

Still, it may be best to post about the issue in the WLMail newsgroup. The

Go to https://support.live.com/eform.aspx and sign-in using the LiveID in
question. Now click the Windows Live ID link in the left-hand pane; that
should take you to the page where you can contact Windows Live ID Support

FWIW, it would appear that they're aware of the issues some users have been

OK, thought exercise. Say it wouldn't let you in. What would you do?
Remember your favorite pet's name, what your grandfather did for a living,
where your mother was born? Have a paid account with a phone number to
call? Is the phone number associated with your account the same as the one
you will be calling from? Alternate email address valid and accessible? If
your five accounts are linked Windows Live accounts, can you actually log in
to each one separately?

I don't do anything important with my Windows Live accounts. I don't use
them for anything that I could afford to lose. There are more reliable
providers.

I think I only linked two. Tried to figure out what good it does to link
them. Never did see the utility in the linkage.

Just wanted to say I am back in my account. After two weeks and 8 tech
replies, I finally convinced them that it really was my account. In the end
it was WLM tech support. They asked for lots of info about the account (no
passwords or bank account stuff-just about the email account contents and IP
address of my computer).
Within 24 hours they sent a link to reset my password. Too bad it took two
weeks. Nice to see that 2 weeks of messages were still there-though the
number of junk mails makes me wonder if I really need this particular account.

How did you get back in? I know my PW and I'm STILL locked out of my
account? Was there anything specifically that you needed to do? What did MS
do on their end of fix the issue?
Post by kc
Just wanted to say I am back in my account. After two weeks and 8 tech
replies, I finally convinced them that it really was my account. In the end
it was WLM tech support. They asked for lots of info about the account (no
passwords or bank account stuff-just about the email account contents and IP
address of my computer).
Within 24 hours they sent a link to reset my password. Too bad it took two
weeks. Nice to see that 2 weeks of messages were still there-though the
number of junk mails makes me wonder if I really need this particular account.

I am having the same problem - Has anyone been able to resolve this issue
and get back into their email account yet?
I am not having any problem at all; logged in to five Windows Live
accounts without trouble. No issue here, so none to resolve.
OK, thought exercise. Say it wouldn't let you in. What would you do?
Remember your favorite pet's name, what your grandfather did for a living,
where your mother was born?
Refer to my notes. Much more reliable than my memory.

Have a paid account with a phone number to call?
I don't do anything important with my Windows Live accounts. I don't use
them for anything that I could afford to lose. There are more reliable
providers.

Is the phone number associated with your account the same as the one
you will be calling from?
I never gave them a phone number.
Post by Earle Horton
Alternate email address valid and accessible?
Yes.

If your five accounts are linked Windows Live accounts, can you actually log in
to each one separately?
I think I only linked two. Tried to figure out what good it does to link
them. Never did see the utility in the linkage.

Like I said-I kept replying to them (at WLM) until they asked me for account
specific info. They wanted to know about the account (non default folders,
subjects of emails and mail list names). What they were doing was having me
prove it was my account. Only I would know what was in my old mail or sent
mail or the purpose for this particular account. I am very happy they asked
for all this info and made me prove it was my account-though I wish they
would have asked two weeks ago. It was perciverence that finally moved the
matter forward.
My password was correct but no longer valid. I think something happened on
their end that wiped out my info.
What they did was free up my password access so I could set a new one.
Hope this helps, KC
