Hello folks,

I've had the following error:

The first error message I got is:
Outlook Express could not be started. The application was
unable to initialize the store directory. Your computer
may be out of memory or your disk is full(0x80004005).

trying to start Outlook Express 6.0 on my Windows XP workstation, and
I've been hunting for help to no avail. I've searched Google Web, and
Google Groups and yet still no answer. However, I've figured out the
problem and the solution is trivial.

Apparently, I have tons of free disk space, and tons of memory too, so
that couldn't be the problem. I did no uninstalls, and Outlook
Express was working fine before the weekend. What I did notice that I
did do was modify the permissions of a folder and propagated the
changes to all subfolders and files. One of the subfolders was the
Outlook Express store folder (where Outlook Express keeps all of its
.dbx files for the Inbox, Sent Mail, Deleted, etc...). The change I
made was to set permissions to Read Only. When I realized this, I
went back and undid the change to that folder. I restarted OutLook
Express and it came up fine.

Anyhow, hope this helps somebody else out in the future.

That error often comes with a second error message complaining that
"MSOE.DLL could not be initialized". See if any of the following articles
help:
